Bangkok – 1st July 2015: Central Pattana plc (CPN) is teaming up with partners such as Central Department Store; Major Cineplex, the operator of Westgate Cineplex; SB Furniture, Virgin Active Club, the premium fitness club; and copyright owner of the popular cartoon “Doraemon” Animation International (Thailand) to announce their readiness for the opening of CentralPlaza Westgate on the upcoming 28th August.
CPN is also announcing collaboration plan with the major international furniture company, “IKEA” to open a new IKEA store in the future. The new IKEA store will accentuate CentralPlaza WestGate as the ultimate “super regional mall” of the region.
Wallaya Chirathivat, Senior Executive Vice President of Business Development & Project Construction of CPN said: ‘CentralPlaza WestGate is a game-changer for the retail industry with its vastness, it is an epic project and has a total investment of over 14 billion baht on the full phase of 500,000 m2 space, located on 100 rai of land. We believe that this project will turn the Bangyai intersection into a new Central Business District. The Bangyai intersection is the gateway of western Bangkok and we are confident in its potential because of the government’s mega projects that link all the transport routes together including the MRT Purple Line, public transportation, piers, a ring road, expressway and motorway, which will turn the Bangyai intersection into the most comprehensive transportation center covering all modes of transport and travel.’
CentralPlaza WestGate will become the destination that gathers the ultimate lifestyle experience and entertainment for everyone in the family together. In addition, CentralPlaza WestGate is also a home for popular Thai and international brands of over 500 stores and a variety of products from CPN’s partners such as Power Buy, B2S, Office Mate, Super Sports, Tops Market and Tops Super Store. The activity zone and convention hall at CentralPlaza Westgate is capable of supporting over 3,000 people.

CPN also plans to collaborate with IKEA, a global furniture brand, in the future opening of the newest model of IKEA store at CentralPlaza WestGate. Mr. Christian Rojkjaer, Managing Director of Ikano Private Limited confirmed his team’s ambition to open the second IKEA store in Thailand at CentralPlaza WestGate. Mr. Christian Rojkjaer who is responsible for the IKEA franchise in Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia said: ‘We want all of our IKEA stores to be part of an inspiring retail destination that makes it as easy as possible for people to shop and enjoy a day out with the family – and WestGate provides it all. We believe CentralPlaza WestGate will be the best regional shopping centre in west Bangkok. CPN’s strong one-stop shopping concept and excellent links to major roadways and public transport make it the perfect location for us to further our vision of creating a better everyday life for many people. Our hope is to develop a one-of-a-kind IKEA store that is fully integrated into the shopping centre, offering shoppers access to the IKEA Store from all levels of the shopping center – creating a seamless shopping experience.
Ms. Wallaya concluded: ‘We see the importance of the convenience in travelling to the shopping center so we built a skywalk that directly connects the MRT Talad Bangyai station to the entrance of the shopping center, and a flyover across from Karnchanapisek Road in addition to an underpass from Rattanathibet Road, which directly connect to the entrance of the shopping center without interfering with the traffic on the main route. In addition, we have international standard parking, which is safe and able to support over 5,000 vehicles.’
CentralPlaza Westgate is opening on 28th August 2015 and there will be an amazing grand celebration on 17th September, followed by continuous activities and promotional campaigns right up until the New Year celebrations.
